Special Interests:

Anxiety and Depression
It is a common human experience to feel down, anxious, and fearful at times. In most cases, these feelings pass. However, for some people low mood and/or anxiety can persist, feel overwhelming, and make it difficult to do everyday activities and live the life that they want. Psychological assessment and appropriate treatment can assist in developing strategies for managing and over-coming low mood and anxiety-related challenges and in recovering hope and joy in life.

Perinatal Mental Health
The perinatal period – from conception, through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood – is a time of great adjustment for women and their partners. While many couples resolve and adapt to challenges that may arise, for others this time can lead to the development or exacerbation of mental health difficulties.
Common areas people seek support for include but are not limited to:
~ family planning and infertility
~ unexpected pregnancy
~ preparation for birth
~ pre and post-natal anxiety and depression
~ adjustment to parenthood
~ relationship difficulties, effective communication and boundary setting
~ trauma and processing of birth experience
~ strengthening parent-infant bond
~ miscarriage or early infant loss/ stillbirth

Trauma and Complex Trauma
Trauma is our body and brain’s response to a deeply distressing event (or events) that overwhelms our ability to cope. Traumas may include single incident experiences or cumulative stress or trauma over time (complex trauma), such as if a person has lived through abusive or neglectful situations. Trauma is a deeply personal experience and can have lasting effects on a person's physical and mental health, including a significant impact on a person's sense of self, sense of safety, their relationships, and ability to function in the world. Psychological therapy can help individuals to re-establish a sense of safety, process memories in a safe space, learn skills to manage distress and re-gain a sense of control over life.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterised by recurring unwanted and intrusive thoughts, images or urges (obsessions) that trigger intensely distressing feelings. Individuals who experience OCD also typically engage in repetitive actions or rituals (compulsions), often as an attempt to get rid of the obsessions and/or decrease distress. Living with OCD can be highly distressing, debilitating, exhausting, and can feel shameful. It is important to know that no recurring thought, image or action is too unique or taboo for treatment. Regardless of the obsessional theme/s a person may be struggling with, there are effective treatments available.
